Protecting Against Bots

Bots are an issue for all websites. They are used to bombard ticketing websites, disrupting ticket onsales, slowing queues so that the bot user can buy tickets faster than any human. These tickets are then resold at inflated prices on unofficial secondary websites.

We continue to make significant investments in the research and development of effective strategies to identify and block bots. While we can’t go into detail about how we do that (as we don’t want the people using bots to know) we can tell you that last year Ticketmaster blocked an average of 200 million bots daily worldwide, and the number is constantly increasing.

We invest over $100 million annually in technology, including leading bot defence systems, but some still get through, showing the scale of the problem. Stronger enforcement of UK legislation is needed to help tackle this issue.
